Introducing a new class Type_holder (used internally in sql_union.cc),
to reuse exactly the same data type attribute aggregation Type_handler API
for hybrid functions and UNION.
This fixes a number of bugs in UNION:
- MDEV-9495 Wrong field type for a UNION of a signed and an unsigned INT expression
- MDEV-9497 UNION and COALESCE produce different field types for DECIMAL+INT
- MDEV-12594 UNION between fixed length double columns does not always preserve scale
- MDEV-12595 UNION converts INT to BIGINT
- MDEV-12599 UNION is not symmetric when mixing INT and CHAR
Details:
- sql_union.cc: Reusing attribute aggregation for UNION.
Adding new methods:
* st_select_lex_unit::join_union_type_handlers()
* st_select_lex_unit::join_union_type_attributes()
* st_select_lex_unit::join_union_item_types()
Removing the old join_types()-based code.
- Changing Type_handler::Item_hybrid_func_fix_attributes()
to accept "name", Type_handler_hybrid_field_type, Type_all_attributes
as three separate parameters instead of a single Item_hybrid_func parameter,
to make it possible to pass both Item_hybrid_func and Type_holder.
- Moving the former special GEOMETRY and ENUM/SET attribute aggregation code
from Item_type_holder::join_types() to
* Type_handler_typelib::Item_hybrid_func_fix_attributes().
* Type_handler_geometry::Item_hybrid_func_fix_attrubutes().
This makes GEOMETRY/ENUM/SET symmetric with all other data types
(from the UNION point of view).
Removing Item_type_holder::join_types() and Item_type_holder::get_full_info().
- Adding new methods into Type_all_attributes:
* Type_all_attributes::set_geometry_type() and
Item_hybrid_func::set_geometry_type().
* Adding Type_all_attributes::get_typelib().
* Adding Type_all_attributes::set_typelib().
- Adding Type_handler_typelib as a common parent for
Type_handler_enum and Type_handler_set, to avoid code duplication: they have
already had two common methods, and we're adding one more shared method.
- Adding Type_all_attributes::set_maybe_null(), as some type handlers
may want to set maybe_null (e.g. Type_handler_geometry) during data type
attribute aggregation.
- Changing Type_geometry_attributes() to accept Type_handler
and Type_all_attributes as two separate parameters, instead
of a single Item parameter, to make it possible to pass Type_holder.
- Adding Item_args::add_argument().
- Moving Item_args::alloc_arguments() from "protected" to "public".
- Moving Item_type_holder::Item_type_holder() from item.cc to item.h, as
now it's very simple.
Btw, this constructor should probably be eventually removed.
It's now used only in sql_show.cc, which could be modified to use
Item_return_decimal (for symmetry with Item_return_xxx created for all
other data types). Or, another option: remove all Item_return_xxx and
use Item_type_holder for all data types instead.

.. share->last_version' failed in myisam/mi_open.c:67: test_if_reopen
During the RENAME operation since the renamed temporary table is also
opened and added to myisam_open_list/maria_open_list, resetting the
last_version at the end of operation (HA_EXTRA_PREPARE_FOR_RENAME)
will cause an assertion failure when a subsequent query tries to open
an additional temporary table instance and thus attempts to reuse it
from the open table list.
This commit fixes the issue by skipping flush/close operations executed
toward the end of ALTER for temporary tables. It also enables a shortcut
for simple ALTERs (like rename, disable/enable keys) on temporary
tables.
As safety checks, added some assertions at code points that should not
be hit for temporary tables.

specified and if not timestamp or auto_increment
In original code, sometimes one got an automatic DEFAULT value in some cases, in other cases not.
For example:
create table t1 (a int primary key) - No default
create table t2 (a int, primary key(a)) - DEFAULT 0
create table t1 SELECT .... - Default for all fields, even if they where defined as NOT NULL
ALTER TABLE ... MODIFY could sometimes add an unexpected DEFAULT value.
The patch is quite big because we had some many test cases that used
CREATE ... SELECT or CREATE ... (...PRIMARY KEY(xxx)) which doesn't have an automatic DEFAULT anymore.
Other things:
- Removed warnings from InnoDB when waiting from semaphore (got this when testing things with --big)

message:
This is a patch for bug#48067
"A temp table with the same name as an existing table, makes drop
database fail"
When dropping the database, mysql_rm_known_files() reads the contents
of the database directory, and creates a TABLE_LIST object, for each
.frm file encountered. Temporary tables, however, are not associated
with any .frm file.
The list of tables to drop are passed to mysql_rm_table_part2().
This method prefers temporary tables over regular tables, so if
there is a temporary table with the same name as a regular, the
temporary is removed, leaving the regular table intact.
Regular tables are only deleted if there are no temporary tables
with the same name.
This fix ensures, that for all TABLE_LIST objects that are created
by mysql_rm_known_files(), 'open_type' is set to 'OT_BASE_ONLY', to
indicate that this is a regular table. In all cases in
mysql_rm_table_part2() where we prefer a temporary table to a
non-temporary table, we chek if 'open_type' equals 'OT_BASE_ONLY'.
mysql-test/r/temp_table.result:

mysql-test/t/temp_table.test:

sql/sql_db.cc:
For all TABLE_LIST objects that are created by mysql_rm_known_files(),

locking type of temp table
The problem is that INSERT INTO .. SELECT FROM .. and CREATE
TABLE .. SELECT FROM a temporary table could inadvertently
overwrite the locking type of the temporary table. The lock
type of temporary tables should be a write lock by default.
The solution is to reset the lock type of temporary tables
back to its default value after they are used in a statement.

sql/sql_base.cc:
Allow the lock type of temp tables to be overwritten now that
the the value is being restored once the table is marked as
free for re-use. This makes the behavior consistent with that
of non-temporary tables and avoids confusion.

but not collation.
The problem here was that text literals in a view were always
dumped with character set introducer. That lead to loosing
collation information.
The fix is to dump character set introducer only if it was
in the original query. That is now possible because there
is no problem any more of loss of character set of string
literals in views -- after WL#4052 the view is dumped
in the original character set.

- BUG#11986: Stored routines and triggers can fail if the code
has a non-ascii symbol
- BUG#16291: mysqldump corrupts string-constants with non-ascii-chars
- BUG#19443: INFORMATION_SCHEMA does not support charsets properly
- BUG#21249: Character set of SP-var can be ignored
- BUG#25212: Character set of string constant is ignored (stored routines)
- BUG#25221: Character set of string constant is ignored (triggers)
There were a few general problems that caused these bugs:
1. Character set information of the original (definition) query for views,
triggers, stored routines and events was lost.
2. mysqldump output query in client character set, which can be
inappropriate to encode definition-query.
3. INFORMATION_SCHEMA used strings with mixed encodings to display object
definition;
1. No query-definition-character set.
In order to compile query into execution code, some extra data (such as
environment variables or the database character set) is used. The problem
here was that this context was not preserved. So, on the next load it can
differ from the original one, thus the result will be different.
The context contains the following data:
- client character set;
- connection collation (character set and collation);
- collation of the owner database;
The fix is to store this context and use it each time we parse (compile)
and execute the object (stored routine, trigger, ...).
2. Wrong mysqldump-output.
The original query can contain several encodings (by means of character set
introducers). The problem here was that we tried to convert original query
to the mysqldump-client character set.
Moreover, we stored queries in different character sets for different
objects (views, for one, used UTF8, triggers used original character set).
The solution is
- to store definition queries in the original character set;
- to change SHOW CREATE statement to output definition query in the
binary character set (i.e. without any conversion);
- introduce SHOW CREATE TRIGGER statement;
- to dump special statements to switch the context to the original one
before dumping and restore it afterwards.
Note, in order to preserve the database collation at the creation time,
additional ALTER DATABASE might be used (to temporary switch the database
collation back to the original value). In this case, ALTER DATABASE
privilege will be required. This is a backward-incompatible change.
3. INFORMATION_SCHEMA showed non-UTF8 strings
The fix is to generate UTF8-query during the parsing, store it in the object
and show it in the INFORMATION_SCHEMA.
Basically, the idea is to create a copy of the original query convert it to
UTF8. Character set introducers are removed and all text literals are
converted to UTF8.
This UTF8 query is intended to provide user-readable output. It must not be
used to recreate the object. Specialized SHOW CREATE statements should be
used for this.
The reason for this limitation is the following: the original query can
contain symbols from several character sets (by means of character set
introducers).
Example:
- original query:
CREATE VIEW v1 AS SELECT _cp1251 'Hello' AS c1;
- UTF8 query (for INFORMATION_SCHEMA):
CREATE VIEW v1 AS SELECT 'Hello' AS c1;

The problem in this bug is when we create temporary tables. When
temporary tables are created for unions, there is some
inferrence being carried out regarding the type of the column.
Whenever this column type is inferred to be REAL (i.e. FLOAT or
DOUBLE), MySQL will always try to maintain exact precision, and
if that is not possible (there are hardware limits, since FLOAT
and DOUBLE are stored as approximate values) will switch to
using approximate values. The problem here is that at this point
the information about number of significant digits is not
available. Furthermore, the number of significant digits should
be increased for the AVG function, however, this was not properly
handled. There are 4 parts to the problem:
#1: DOUBLE and FLOAT fields don't display their proper display
lengths in max_display_length(). This is hard-coded as 53 for
DOUBLE and 24 for FLOAT. Now changed to instead return the
field_length.
#2: Type holders for temporary tables do not preserve the
max_length of the Item's from which they are created, and is
instead reverted to the 53 and 24 from above. This causes
*all* fields to get non-fixed significant digits.
#3: AVG function does not update max_length (display length)
when updating number of decimals.
#4: The function that switches to non-fixed number of
significant digits should use DBL_DIG + 2 or FLT_DIG + 2 as
cut-off values (Since fixed precision does not use the 'e'
notation)
Of these points, #1 is the controversial one, but this
change is preferred and has been cleared with Monty. The
function causes quite a few unit tests to blow up and they had
to b changed, but each one is annotated and motivated. We
frequently see the magical 53 and 24 give way to more relevant
numbers.
mysql-test/r/create.result:

With the changes made for FLOAT and DOUBLE, the original display
lengths are now preserved.

mysql-test/r/type_float.result:

delta 1: field was originally declared as DOUBLE with no display
length, so the hardware maximum is chosen rather than 53.
delta 2: fields exceed the maximum precision and thus switch to
non-fixed significant digits
delta 3: Same as above, number of decmals and significant digits
was not specified when t3 was created.

sql/field.h:
bug#24791
The method max_display_length is reimplemented as
uint32 max_display_length() { return field_length; }
in Field_double and Field_float. Since all subclasses of
Field_real now have the same implementation of this method, the
implementation has been moved up the hierarchy to Field_real.
sql/item.cc:
bug#24791
We switch to a non-fixed number of significant digits
(by setting decimals=NOT_FIXED_DECIMAL) if the calculated
display length is greater than the display length of a value
with the maximum precision. These values differ for double and
float, obviously.
sql/item_sum.cc:
bug#24791
We must increase the display length accordinly whenever we
change number of decimal places.

The problem was that during DROP TEMPORARY TABLE we tried to acquire
the name lock, though temporary tables belongs to one connection, and
no race is possible.
The solution is to not use table name locking while executing
DROP TEMPORARY TABLE.

com_show_status). Global status variables are still updated.
SHOW STATUS are not anymore put in slow query log because of no index usage.
Implemntation done by removing orig_sql_command and moving logic of SHOW STATUS to mysql_excute_command()
This simplifies code and allows us to remove some if statements all over the code.
Upgraded uc_update_queries[] to sql_command_flags and added more bitmaps to better categorize commands.
This allowed some overall simplifaction when testing sql_command.
Fixes bugs:
Bug#10210: running SHOW STATUS increments counters it shouldn't
Bug#19764: SHOW commands end up in the slow log as table scans
mysql-test/r/grant_cache.result:

(Bug #10210)
sql/mysql_priv.h:

sql/sql_class.cc:
New function add_diff_to_status(), used to update global status variables when using SHOW STATUS
sql/sql_class.h:
New function 'fill_information_schema_tables()'
(One could not anymore use fill_derived_tables() for this as only_view_structures() is not relevant for information schema tables)
Added defines for bit flags in sql_command_flags[]
sql/sql_lex.cc:
Remove orig_sql_command
sql/sql_lex.h:
Remove orig_sql_command
sql/sql_parse.cc:
Rename uc_update_queries -> sql_command_flags.
Enhanced 'sql_command_flags' to better classify SQL commands
uc_update_queries[] != 0 is changed to (sql_command_flags[] & CF_CHANGES_DATA)
lex->orig_sql_command == SQLCOM_END is changed to (sql_command_flags[lex->sql_command] & CF_STATUS_COMMAND) == 0)
Simplify incrementing of thd->status_var.com_stat[] as we don't have to do special handling for SHOW commands.
Split SQLCOM_SELECT handling in mysql_execute_command() to a separate function.
Added special handling of SHOW STATUS commands in mysql_execute_command() and call common SQLCOM_SELECT handling.
These changes allows us to easily fix that we save and restore status variables during execution of a SHOW STATUS command.
Don't log SHOW STATUS commands to slow query log.
This fixes Bug#10210 and Bug#19764 without adding additional 'if' code.
(The new code is faster than the original as we now have fewer if's than before)
sql/sql_prepare.cc:
Clean up prepare-check handling of SQLCOM commands by using sql_command_flags[]
This simplifes code and ensures that code works even if someone forgets to put a new status commands into the switch statement.
sql/sql_select.cc:
Remove special handling of SHOW STATUS.
(This is now done in SQLCOM_SHOW_STATUS part in mysql_execute_command())
sql/sql_show.cc:
Remove orig_sql_command
Only change sql_command during 'open_normal_and_derived_tables()' (for views) and not for the full duration of generating data.
Changed 'show status' to use thd->initial_status_var to ensure that the current statement is not affecting the to-be-used values.
Use thd->fill_information_schema_tables() instead of 'thd->fill_derived_tables()' as the later wrongly checks the value of sql_command.
sql/sql_yacc.yy:
Remove usage of orig_sql_command.
One side effect of this is that we need to test for cursors if the current command is a SELECT or a SHOW command.

The table opening process now works the following way:
- Create common TABLE_SHARE object
- Read the .frm file and unpack it into the TABLE_SHARE object
- Create a TABLE object based on the information in the TABLE_SHARE
object and open a handler to the table object
Other noteworthy changes:
- In TABLE_SHARE the most common strings are now LEX_STRING's

- Read the .frm file and unpack it into the TABLE_SHARE object
- Create a TABLE object based on the information in the TABLE_SHARE
object and open a handler to the table object
