* hostip: include easy_lock.h before using GLOBAL_INIT_IS_THREADSAFEDaniel Stenberg2023-05-171-9/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Since that header file is the only place that define can be defined. Reported-by: Marc Deslauriers Follow-up to 13718030ad4b3209 Closes #11121
* hostip: avoid sscanf and extra buffer copiesDaniel Stenberg2023-02-271-1/+1
| | | | | | Also made create_hostcache_id() return the id length. Closes #10601
* copyright: update all copyright lines and remove year rangesDaniel Stenberg2023-01-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | - they are mostly pointless in all major jurisdictions - many big corporations and projects already don't use them - saves us from pointless churn - git keeps history for us - the year range is kept in COPYING checksrc is updated to allow non-year using copyright statements Closes #10205
* netware: remove leftover tracesDaniel Gustafsson2022-11-231-5/+0
| | | | | | | | | Commit 3b16575ae938dec2a29454631a12aa52b6ab9c67 removed support for building on Novell Netware, but a few leftover traces remained. This removes the last bits. Closes: #9966 Reviewed-by: Daniel Stenberg <daniel@haxx.se>
* multi: use larger dns hash table for multi interfaceDaniel Stenberg2022-08-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Have curl_multi_init() use a much larger DNS hash table than used for the easy interface to scale and perform better when used with _many_ host names. curl_share_init() sets an in-between size. Inspired-by: Ivan Tsybulin See #9340 Closes #9376
* copyright: make repository REUSE compliantmax.mehl2022-06-131-1/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | Add licensing and copyright information for all files in this repository. This either happens in the file itself as a comment header or in the file `.reuse/dep5`. This commit also adds a Github workflow to check pull requests and adapts copyright.pl to the changes. Closes #8869
* hash: lazy-alloc the table in Curl_hash_add()bagder/hash-lazyallocDaniel Stenberg2021-12-101-2/+2
| | | | | | This makes Curl_hash_init() infallible which saves error paths. Closes #8132
* hostip: Make Curl_ipv6works function independent of getaddrinfoJay Satiro2021-08-101-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | - Do not assume IPv6 is not working when getaddrinfo is not present. The check to see if IPv6 actually works is now independent of whether there is any resolver that can potentially resolve a hostname to IPv6. Prior to this change if getaddrinfo() was not found at compile time then Curl_ipv6works() would be defined as a macro that returns FALSE. When getaddrinfo is not found then libcurl is built with CURLRES_IPV4 defined instead of CURLRES_IPV6, meaning that it cannot do IPv6 lookups in the traditional way. With this commit if libcurl is built with IPv6 support (ENABLE_IPV6) but without getaddrinfo (CURLRES_IPV6), and the IPv6 stack is actually working, then it is possible for libcurl to resolve IPv6 addresses by using DoH. * hsts: ignore numberical IP address hostsDaniel Stenberg2021-05-301-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | Also, use a single function library-wide for detecting if a given hostname is a numerical IP address. Reported-by: Harry Sintonen Fixes #7146 Closes #7149
* hostip.h: remove declaration of unimplemented functionMarc Aldorasi2021-05-191-9/+0
| | | | Closes #7094
* asyn-ares: use consistent resolve error messageDaniel Stenberg2021-02-181-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | ... with the help of Curl_resolver_error() which now is moved from asyn-thead.c and is provided globally for this purpose. Follow-up to 35ca04ce1b77636 Makes test 1188 work for c-ares builds Closes #6626
* hostip/proxy: remove conn->data useDaniel Stenberg2021-01-261-1/+1
| | | | Closes #6513
* hostip: remove conn->data from resolver functionsDaniel Stenberg2021-01-221-8/+7
| | | | | | | This also moves the 'async' struct from the connectdata struct into the Curl_easy struct, which seems like a better home for it. Closes #6497
* lib: pass in 'struct Curl_easy *' to most functionsDaniel Stenberg2021-01-171-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ... in most cases instead of 'struct connectdata *' but in some cases in addition to. - We mostly operate on transfers and not connections. - We need the transfer handle to log, store data and more. Everything in libcurl is driven by a transfer (the CURL * in the public API). - This work clarifies and separates the transfers from the connections better. - We should avoid "conn->data". Since individual connections can be used by many transfers when multiplexing, making sure that conn->data points to the current and correct transfer at all times is difficult and has been notoriously error-prone over the years. The goal is to ultimately remove the conn->data pointer for this reason. Closes #6425
* dns: extend CURLOPT_RESOLVE syntax for adding non-permanent entriesPaul Groke2020-12-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Extend the syntax of CURLOPT_RESOLVE strings: allow using a '+' prefix (similar to the existing '-' prefix for removing entries) to add DNS cache entries that will time out just like entries that are added by libcurl itself. Append " (non-permanent)" to info log message in case a non-permanent entry is added. Adjust relevant comments to reflect the new behavior. Adjust documentation. Extend unit1607 to test the new functionality. Closes #6294

* hostip: make Curl_printable_address not return anythingDaniel Stenberg2020-05-191-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | It was not used much anyway and instead we let it store a blank buffer in case of failure. Reported-by: MonocleAI Fixes #5411 Closes #5418
* source cleanup: remove all custom typedef structsDaniel Stenberg2020-05-151-10/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | - Stick to a single unified way to use structs - Make checksrc complain on 'typedef struct {' - Allow them in tests, public headers and examples - Let MD4_CTX, MD5_CTX, and SHA256_CTX typedefs remain as they actually typedef different types/structs depending on build conditions. Closes #5338
* socks: make the connect phase non-blockingDaniel Stenberg2020-02-171-12/+15
| | | | | | Removes two entries from KNOWN_BUGS. Closes #4907
* global_init: move the IPv6 works status bool to multi handleDaniel Stenberg2020-01-281-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | Previously it was stored in a global state which contributed to curl_global_init's thread unsafety. This boolean is now instead figured out in curl_multi_init() and stored in the multi handle. Less effective, but thread safe. Closes #4851
* timediff: make it 64 bit (if possible) even with 32 bit time_tDaniel Stenberg2019-08-011-1/+2
| | | | | | | ... to make it hold microseconds too. Fixes #4165 Closes #4168
* cleanup: remove the 'numsocks' argument used in many placesDaniel Stenberg2019-07-301-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | It was used (intended) to pass in the size of the 'socks' array that is also passed to these functions, but was rarely actually checked/used and the array is defined to a fixed size of MAX_SOCKSPEREASYHANDLE entries that should be used instead. Closes #4169
* headers: Remove no longer exported functionsDaniel Gustafsson2019-07-101-9/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There were a leftover few prototypes of Curl_ functions that we used to export but no longer do, this removes those prototypes and cleans up any comments still referring to them. Curl_write32_le(), Curl_strcpy_url(), Curl_strlen_url(), Curl_up_free() Curl_concat_url(), Curl_detach_connnection(), Curl_http_setup_conn() were made static in 05b100aee247bb9bec8e9a1b0166496aa4248d1c. Curl_http_perhapsrewind() made static in 574aecee208f79d391f10d57520b3. For the remainder, I didn't trawl the Git logs hard enough to capture their exact time of deletion, but they were all gone: Curl_splayprint(), Curl_http2_send_request(), Curl_global_host_cache_dtor(), Curl_scan_cache_used(), Curl_hostcache_destroy(), Curl_second_connect(), Curl_http_auth_stage() and Curl_close_connections(). * doh: disable DOH for the cases it doesn't workDaniel Stenberg2019-05-111-2/+5
| | | | | | | | | | Due to limitations in Curl_resolver_wait_resolv(), it doesn't work for DOH resolves. This fix disables DOH for those. Limitation added to KNOWN_BUGS. Fixes #3850 Closes #3857

* setopt: add CURLOPT_DOH_URLDaniel Stenberg2018-09-061-6/+7
| | | | Closes #2668
* resolve: add CURLOPT_DNS_SHUFFLE_ADDRESSESRick Deist2018-03-171-1/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds CURLOPT_DNS_SHUFFLE_ADDRESSES to explicitly request shuffling of IP addresses returned for a hostname when there is more than one. This is useful when the application knows that a round robin approach is appropriate and is willing to accept the consequences of potentially discarding some preference order returned by the system's implementation. Closes #1694
* spelling fixesklemens2017-03-261-2/+2

* lib: fix compiler warnings after de4de4e3c7cMarcel Raad2016-11-181-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | Visual C++ now complains about implicitly casting time_t (64-bit) to long (32-bit). Fix this by changing some variables from long to time_t, or explicitly casting to long where the public interface would be affected. Closes #1131

* hostcache: made all host caches use structs, not pointersDaniel Stenberg2015-05-121-2/+2
| | | | | | This avoids unnecessary dynamic allocs and as this also removed the last users of *hash_alloc() and *hash_destroy(), those two functions are now removed.

* fix refreshing of obsolete dns cache entriesStefan Bühler2015-04-031-4/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | - cache entries must be also refreshed when they are in use - have the cache count as inuse reference too, freeing timestamp == 0 special value - use timestamp == 0 for CURLOPT_RESOLVE entries which don't get refreshed - remove CURLOPT_RESOLVE special inuse reference (timestamp == 0 will prevent refresh) - fix Curl_hostcache_clean - CURLOPT_RESOLVE entries don't have a special reference anymore, and it would also release non CURLOPT_RESOLVE references - fix locking in Curl_hostcache_clean - fix unit1305.c: hash now keeps a reference, need to set inuse = 1
* hostip: remove 'stale' argument from Curl_fetch_addr protoDaniel Stenberg2015-01-071-4/+2
| | | | | Also, remove the log output of the resolved name is NOT in the cache in the spirit of only telling when something is actually happening.
* code/docs: Use correct case for IPv4 and IPv6Steve Holme2014-12-271-2/+2
| | | | | | For consistency, as we seem to have a bit of a mixed bag, changed all instances of ipv4 and ipv6 in comments and documentations to use the correct case.
* resolve: cache lookup for async resolversMichael Wallner2014-08-311-0/+11
| | | | | | | | | | While waiting for a host resolve, check if the host cache may have gotten the name already (by someone else), for when the same name is resolved by several simultanoues requests. The resolver thread occasionally gets stuck in getaddrinfo() when the DNS or anything else is crappy or slow, so when a host is found in the DNS cache, leave the thread alone and let itself cleanup the mess.
* dns: fix compilation with MinGW from commit df69440d05f113Steve Holme2013-09-171-1/+1
| | | | | | Avoid 'interface' literal that some MinGW versions define as a macro Additionally, corrected some very, very minor coding style errors.

* global dns cache: didn't work [regression]Daniel Stenberg2013-08-081-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | CURLOPT_DNS_USE_GLOBAL_CACHE broke in commit c43127414d89ccb (been broken since the libcurl 7.29.0 release). While this option has been documented as deprecated for almost a decade and nobody even reported this bug, it should remain functional. Added test case 1512 to verify
* build: fix circular header inclusion with other packagesYang Tse2013-01-091-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit renames lib/setup.h to lib/curl_setup.h and renames lib/setup_once.h to lib/curl_setup_once.h. Removes the need and usage of a header inclusion guard foreign to libcurl. [1] Removes the need and presence of an alarming notice we carried in old setup_once.h [2] ---------------------------------------- 1 - lib/setup_once.h used __SETUP_ONCE_H macro as header inclusion guard up to commit ec691ca3 which changed this to HEADER_CURL_SETUP_ONCE_H, this single inclusion guard is enough to ensure that inclusion of lib/setup_once.h done from lib/setup.h is only done once. Additionally lib/setup.h has always used __SETUP_ONCE_H macro to protect inclusion of setup_once.h even after commit ec691ca3, this was to avoid a circular header inclusion triggered when building a c-ares enabled version with c-ares sources available which also has a setup_once.h header. Commit ec691ca3 exposes the real nature of __SETUP_ONCE_H usage in lib/setup.h, it is a header inclusion guard foreign to libcurl belonging to c-ares's setup_once.h The renaming this commit does, fixes the circular header inclusion, and as such removes the need and usage of a header inclusion guard foreign to libcurl. Macro __SETUP_ONCE_H no longer used in libcurl. 2 - Due to the circular interdependency of old lib/setup_once.h and the c-ares setup_once.h header, old file lib/setup_once.h has carried back from 2006 up to now days an alarming and prominent notice about the need of keeping libcurl's and c-ares's setup_once.h in sync. Given that this commit fixes the circular interdependency, the need and presence of mentioned notice is removed. All mentioned interdependencies come back from now old days when the c-ares project lived inside a curl subdirectory. This commit removes last traces of such fact.

* fixed memory leak: CURLOPT_RESOLVE with multi interfaceDaniel Stenberg2012-11-181-1/+9
| | | | | | | | | | DNS cache entries populated with CURLOPT_RESOLVE were not properly freed again when done using the multi interface. Test case 1502 added to verify. Bug: http://curl.haxx.se/bug/view.cgi?id=3575448 Reported by: Alex Gruz
* CURLOPT_RESOLVE: avoid adding already present host namesDaniel Stenberg2011-12-311-0/+2
| | | | | | | The load host names to DNS cache function was moved to hostip.c and it now makes sure to not add host names that already are present in the cache. It would previously lead to memory leaks when for example using the --resolve and multiple URLs on the command line.
