* bpo-28503: Use crypt_r() when available instead of crypt() (GH-11373) (GH-11376)Miss Islington (bot)2018-12-301-0/+10
| | | | | | | | Use crypt_r() when available instead of crypt() in the crypt module. As a nice side effect: This also avoids a memory sanitizer flake as clang msan doesn't know about crypt's internal libc allocated buffer. * bpo-35214: Add _Py_ prefix to MEMORY_SANITIZER def. (GH-10503)Miss Islington (bot)2018-11-121-2/+2
| | | | | | | Rename our new MEMORY_SANITIZER define to _Py_MEMORY_SANITIZER. Project based C Preprocessor namespacing at its finest. :P (cherry picked from commit 3015fb8ce4d25603434b9b44bb7effb98a481532) Co-authored-by: Gregory P. Smith <greg@krypto.org>
* [3.7] bpo-35214: Initial clang MemorySanitizer support (GH-10479) (GH-10492)Gregory P. Smith2018-11-121-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Adds configure flags for msan and ubsan builds to make it easier to enable. These also encode the detail that address sanitizer and memory sanitizer should disable pymalloc. Define MEMORY_SANITIZER when appropriate at build time and adds workarounds to existing code to mark things as initialized where the sanitizer is otherwise unable to determine that. This lets our build succeed under the memory sanitizer. not all tests pass without sanitizer failures yet but we're in pretty good shape after this. * bpo-32635: Fix a segfault when importing the crypt module with libxcrypt. ↵stratakis2018-01-231-0/+3
| | | | | | | (#5284) glibc is deprecating libcrypt in favor of libxcrypt, however python assumes that crypt.h will always be included. This change makes the header inclusion explicit when libxcrypt is present on the system.

Reasons for the change: a) Make the comment more explicit. b) If char is unsigned, the cast is optimized away. c) If char is unsigned, gcc emits spurious "array subscript has type 'char'" warnings.
* Make (most of) Python's tests pass under Thread Sanitizer.Jeffrey Yasskin2010-05-031-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | http://code.google.com/p/data-race-test/wiki/ThreadSanitizer is a dynamic data race detector that runs on top of valgrind. With this patch, the binaries at http://code.google.com/p/data-race-test/wiki/ThreadSanitizer#Binaries pass many but not all of the Python tests. All of regrtest still passes outside of tsan. I've implemented part of the C1x atomic types so that we can explicitly mark variables that are used across threads, and get defined behavior as compilers advance. I've added tsan's client header and implementation to the codebase in dynamic_annotations.{h,c} (docs at http://code.google.com/p/data-race-test/wiki/DynamicAnnotations). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get helgrind and drd to give sensible error messages, even when I use their client annotations, so I'm not supporting them.

* Issue #1580: use short float repr where possible.Mark Dickinson2009-04-161-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | - incorporate and adapt David Gay's dtoa and strtod into the Python core - on platforms where we can use Gay's code (almost all!), repr(float) is based on the shortest sequence of decimal digits that rounds correctly. - add sys.float_repr_style attribute to indicate whether we're using Gay's code or not - add autoconf magic to detect and enable SSE2 instructions on x86/gcc - slight change to repr and str: repr switches to exponential notation at 1e16 instead of 1e17, str switches at 1e11 instead of 1e12

The default is 32-bit, meaning i386 and ppc. The most useful alternative is 'all', which includes all 4 CPU architectures supported by MacOS X (i386, ppc, x86_64 and ppc64). This includes limited support for the Carbon bindings in 64-bit mode as well, limited because (a) I haven't done extensive testing and (b) a large portion of the Carbon API's aren't available in 64-bit mode anyway. I've also duplicated a feature of Apple's build of python: setting the environment variable 'ARCHFLAGS' controls the '-arch' flags used for building extensions using distutils. ........

This should make the test more reliable, but I'm not convinced it is the right solution. We need to determine if this causes the test to hang on any platforms or do other bad things. Even if it gets the test to pass reliably, it might be that we want to fix this in socket. The socket returned from accept() is different on different platforms (inheriting attributes or not) and we might want to ensure that the attributes (at least blocking) is the same across all platforms. ........ r61997 | neal.norwitz | 2008-03-28 08:36:31 +0100 (Fri, 28 Mar 2008) | 1 line Name the main method correctly so the test is run ........ r61998 | gregory.p.smith | 2008-03-28 09:00:44 +0100 (Fri, 28 Mar 2008) | 7 lines This patch moves some tests from test_urllib2_net to test_urllib2_localnet. Allows dictionaries to be pre-sized (upto 255 elements) saving time lost to re-sizes with their attendant mallocs and re-insertions. Has zero effect on small dictionaries (5 elements or fewer), a slight benefit for dicts upto 22 elements (because they had to resize once anyway), and more benefit for dicts upto 255 elements (saving multiple resizes during the build-up and reducing the number of collisions on the first insertions).
