* rts: Specialize hashing at call site rather than in struct.Crazycolorz52019-12-111-8/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Separate word and string hash tables on the type level, and do not store the hashing function. Thus when a different hash function is desire it is provided upon accessing the table. This is worst case the same as before the change, and in the majority of cases is better. Also mark the functions for aggressive inlining to improve performance. {F1686506} Reviewers: bgamari, erikd, simonmar Subscribers: rwbarton, thomie, carter GHC Trac Issues: #13165 Differential Revision: https://phabricator.haskell.org/D4889

* More efficient, non-allocating unsafeLookupStaticPtrÖmer Sinan Ağacan2018-11-161-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We now allocate the key to spt on C stack rather than in Haskell heap, avoiding allocating in `unsafeLookupStaticPtr`. This should be slightly more efficient. * Finish stable splitDavid Feuer2018-08-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Long ago, the stable name table and stable pointer tables were one. Now, they are separate, and have significantly different implementations. I believe the time has come to finish the split that began in #7674. * Divide `rts/Stable` into `rts/StableName` and `rts/StablePtr`. * Give each table its own mutex. * Add FFI functions `hs_lock_stable_ptr_table` and `hs_unlock_stable_ptr_table` and document them. These are intended to replace the previously undocumented `hs_lock_stable_tables` and `hs_lock_stable_tables`, which are now documented as deprecated synonyms. * Make `eqStableName#` use pointer equality instead of unnecessarily comparing stable name table indices. * Fix a few GCC warningsMichal Terepeta2018-05-131-7/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | GCC 8 now generates warnings for incompatible function pointer casts [-Werror=cast-function-type]. Apparently there are a few of those in rts code, which makes `./validate` unhappy (since we compile with `-Werror`) This commit tries to fix these issues by changing the functions to have the correct type (and, if necessary, moving the casts into those functions). For instance, hash/comparison function are declared (`Hash.h`) to take `StgWord` but we want to use `StgWord64[2]` in `StaticPtrTable.c`. Instead of casting the function pointers, we can cast the `StgWord` parameter to `StgWord*`. I think this should be ok since `StgWord` should be the same size as a pointer. * Add support for StaticPointers in GHCiBen Gamari2017-02-021-4/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Here we add support to GHCi for StaticPointers. This process begins by adding remote GHCi messages for adding entries to the static pointer table. We then collect binders needing SPT entries after linking and send the interpreter a message adding entries with the appropriate fingerprints. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Summary: A mutex is used to protect the SPT. unsafeLookupStaticPtr and staticPtrKeys in GHC.StaticPtr are made monadic. * Implement -XStaticValuesFacundo Domínguez2014-12-091-0/+57
Summary: As proposed in [1], this extension introduces a new syntactic form `static e`, where `e :: a` can be any closed expression. The static form produces a value of type `StaticPtr a`, which works as a reference that programs can "dereference" to get the value of `e` back. References are like `Ptr`s, except that they are stable across invocations of a program. The relevant wiki pages are [2, 3], which describe the motivation/ideas and implementation plan respectively.
