Find your IP address

Knowing your IP address can help you troubleshoot problems with your
internet connection. You may be surprised to learn that you have two
IP addresses: an IP address for your computer on the internal network and an
IP address for your computer on the internet.

<steps>

Find your internal (network) IP address

Open the <gui xref="shell-terminology">Activities</gui> overview and
start typing <gui>Network</gui>.

Click on <gui>Network</gui> to open the panel.

Select <gui>Wi-Fi</gui> or <gui>Wired</gui> from the list on the left,
depending on which network connection you want to find the IP address
for.

You will see the IP address for a wired connection on the right, or
open the connection details by pressing on the
<gui style="button"><media its:translate="no" type="image" src="figures/emblem-system-symbolic.svg" width="16" height="16">details</media></gui>
button to see the <gui>Details</gui> for wireless network.

</steps>
<steps>

Find your external (internet) IP address

Visit

.

The site will display your external IP address for you.

</steps>

Depending on how your computer connects to the internet, both of these
addresses may be the same.
