* MacOS X: Enable 4-way universal buildsRonald Oussoren2008-06-051-15/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds a new configure argument on OSX: --with-universal-archs=[32-bit|64-bit|all] When used with the --enable-universalsdk option this controls which CPU architectures are includes in the framework. The default is 32-bit, meaning i386 and ppc. The most useful alternative is 'all', which includes all 4 CPU architectures supported by MacOS X (i386, ppc, x86_64 and ppc64). This includes limited support for the Carbon bindings in 64-bit mode as well, limited because (a) I haven't done extensive testing and (b) a large portion of the Carbon API's aren't available in 64-bit mode anyway. I've also duplicated a feature of Apple's build of python: setting the environment variable 'ARCHFLAGS' controls the '-arch' flags used for building extensions using distutils.

| | | | | | | | apparently because tanh(-0.) loses the sign of zero on that platform. If true, this is a bug in FreeBSD. Added a configure test to verify this. I still need to figure out how best to deal with this failure.

* Fix for feature request #1528 Add os.fchmodChristian Heimes2007-11-301-0/+9
| | | | | Georg Brandl has added fchmod() and fchown(). I've contributed lchown but I'm not able to test it on Linux. However it should be available on Mac and some other flavors of Unix. I've made a quick test of fchmod() and fchown() on my system. They are working as expected.

* If there is no libtermcap all the readline tests failed.Neal Norwitz2006-01-071-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | This inappropriately disabled some capabilities which exist. Now test for readline in -lreadline, if not found there, try it in -ltermcap only if not in -lreadline. If both libraries are required, there will need to be more work, but I'm not sure under what conditions both libraries would be required.

* This change implements the following gettext features, asGustavo Niemeyer2004-07-221-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | discussed recently in python-dev: In _locale module: - bind_textdomain_codeset() binding In gettext module: - bind_textdomain_codeset() function - lgettext(), lngettext(), ldgettext(), ldngettext(), which return translated strings encoded in preferred system encoding, if bind_textdomain_codeset() was not used. - Added equivalent functionality in translate() function and catalog classes. Every change was also documented.
* This closes patch:Michael W. Hudson2004-07-071-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | [ 960406 ] unblock signals in threads although the changes do not correspond exactly to any patch attached to that report. Non-main threads no longer have all signals masked. A different interface to readline is used. The handling of signals inside calls to PyOS_Readline is now rather different. These changes are all a bit scary! Review and cross-platform testing much appreciated.
