Now, repo aliases must meet [a-z][a-z0-9-]+ rather than just [a-z0-9]+

Applications default to logging to console, which causes unwanted
output during tests, and I thought this was tidier than allowing
tests to override the logger per-call.

This returns a sorted list of possible aliases for a url.

This also involved codifying it ignoring malformed aliases.
Such behaviour was implemented before, but wasn't obvious.
The restructuring made it have a line of code of its own,
which meant it needed unit testing.

This was done with the aid of the pep8 script, available by running
`easy_install pep8`.
It may be worth making this part of ./check, but that will require
putting pep8 into the development tools stratum.
This should be easy, given pep8 has no external dependencies.
